Title: State-of-the-art real-time object detectors (YOLOv4, Scaled-YOLOv4, YOLOR) Abstract: I will talk about the effective improvement of the model for building state-of-the-art neural networks using the example of creating an object detector. We will discuss how to compare models, what qualities of the model need to be improved, what parts of the model need to be improved for this and how to improve them. A lot of new ideas about modern neural networks can be found in the latest scientific papers. If reading an university textbook does not require time loss for checking every statement, then reading scientific paper requires critical thinking, since many new hypotheses are untested, wrong or incorrectly compared with other hypotheses. A correct understanding of which approaches are best sets the right direction for research to create the best neural networks. So, finally, your work can be used to improve lives and save lives. Bio: Machine Learning engineer - author of state-of-the-art neural networks YOLOv4, Scaled-YOLOv4, DPT, for object detection, semantic segmentation and depth estimation tasks. In 2018-2020, together with Dr. Chien-Yao Wang and Prof. Mark Liao from Academia SINICA Taiwan, developed YOLOv4/Scaled-YOLOv4, a series of the most accurate and the best in accuracy/speed models among a large number of competitive neural networks for object detection. Since 2020, he continued his research at Intel (Intelligent Systems Lab) led by Dr. Vladlen Koltun, where, together with Dr. Rene Ranftl, he created state-of-the-art solution for semantic segmentation and monocular depth estimation tasks. In addition, together with scientists Ph.D. student Ankit Goyal and assistant professor Jia Deng (author of ImageNet dataset and competition) from Princeton, began research in the field of promising shallow neural networks for the hardware of the future. We will talk about their theoretical and practical advantages (attention, global receptive field) and disadvantages (quadratic increase in complexity with increasing resolution, no default spatial invariance) and about ways to optimize them for current and future hardware. There are many scientific developments aimed at creating the most accurate neural networks by increasing the size of the neural network and the size of the private dataset. Often the speed of such neural networks is lower than acceptable on the available mass user hardware, and the accuracy is low if you use only the available datasets. Another problem is that neural networks are often optimized in terms of FLOPS, a theoretical measure of computational complexity, without considering the degree of parallelism on multicore / multichip devices and memory bandwidth requirements, which leads to slow speed. In this talk, we will see ways to build neural networks that are faster and allow for cheaper hardware while maintaining accuracy. We will talk about what problems and ways to solve them are for various tasks of computer vision, and about which neural network architectures will be preferable in the future.
