This is the second of 6 videos I have created on SQL Server constraints. The Unique constraint ensures that each row for a column has a different value; you cannot repeat the same values in a column if the Unique constraint is specified. SQL constraints are rules specified on database tables and/or columns to restrict the data entered into a table. If we set constraints on a table and any violation between the constraint and the data, the action is aborted. This is important in a relational database because it ensures the data's accuracy and reliability in the table.

Database Tutorial. This video is about Database Fundamentals. I hope this series of videos can help those who want to be Database Professionals. I will cover various database technologies including Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server database and Sybase. Video: What is the Difference between Primary Key and Unique Key (Video 14 in the Database Tutorial Series) (Common for Oracle/Microsft SQL Server/Sybase /MySQL)
A brief beginner's introduction to the DISTINCT operator in SQL. DISTINCT creates a set of unique records, based on field values. In other words, duplicates records, based on field values, are removed. DISTINCT is often used with COUNT, to achieve a count of distinct values. Be aware that NULL is treated as a distinct value in terms of records, but COUNT ignores NULLs. See the full code here: 🤍
The DISTINCT keyword in SQL allows you to eliminate duplicate records from the results of your SELECT query. This video explains how to use SQL DISTINCT, how to use it with COUNT, and one thing to be aware of. The demonstration uses MySQL, but the code and concept work in many other vendors (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
This video teaches you how to create a unique key constraint. The rationale behind unique key constraints is briefly explained and the unique constraint created in the video is tested at the tail end of the tutorial.

Hi Friends, In this in this session we are going to learn the differences between primary key and unique key This is one of the most frequently asked sql server interview questions. Before we discuss the difference between primary key and unique key, let's see what a primary key is and what a unique key is. Primary Key: Primary key is a key which uniquely identifies each row/record in the table. This implies if you have a primary key on a table, you can identify each and every row in that table uniquely using primary key. Unique Key: Unique key constraint enforces the uniqueness on the columns in which it is defined. That is Unique key will make sure only unique values are allowed in the columns in which it is defined. Similarities: Both Primary key and unique Key enforces uniqueness on the columns on which they are defined. • Primary key and unique Key columns allow only unique values. • Primary key and unique Key columns will avoid duplicates • Both Primary key and unique Key columns uniquely identifies each row/record in the table Differences: PRIMARY KEY UNIQUE KEY Primary Key Does not allow duplicates Unique key allows only one NULL A table can have only 1 Primary Key A table can have multiple Unique Keys By default Primary Key creates a Unique Clustered Index on the table By default Unique Key creates a Unique Non-Clustered Index on the table. I hope this session is clear and i hope this knowldge should help you in interviews. Please share your valuable comments & sugesstions. Also, subscriber to my channel for more sql server interview questions and answers. Bye bye & Have a good day.

NULLs are interesting values. While they fill an important need in the database, it's not always intuitive how different SQL Server statements and functions handle them. The SELECT DISTINCT statement is used to return only distinct (different/unique) values. Inside a table, a column often contains many duplicate values and often you would want to list the unique (distinct) values. The SQL DISTINCT keyword is used in conjunction with the SELECT statement to eliminate all the duplicate records and fetching only unique records. There may be a situation when you have multiple duplicate records in a table. While fetching such records, it makes more sense to fetch only those unique records instead of fetching duplicate records. The basic syntax of DISTINCT keyword to eliminate the duplicate records is SELECT DISTINCT column1, column2.....columnN FROM table_name WHERE [condition] _ In this video we have covered. What is SELECT DISTINCT statement? How to fetch the distinct data from a database table. How to write query to get all the unique values from a table columns what does the SELECT DISTINCT statement means. In this tutorial, we will learn "How Does UNIQUE Constraint Work?" in SQL Server. Unique constraints are another feature of SQL which ensures that each row for a column must have a unique value and provides an uniqueness identity of each row in the table. It is similar like a Primary key but it can accept only one null value. In a table one or more column can contain a Unique Constraint. How can we create Unique constraints? Only single Null value is allowed in a column on which Unique Constraint is created.
